Schonnebeck es un barrio de la ciudad de Essen. Schonnebeck se encuentra al noreste del centro de la ciudad y limita al norte con Katernberg, al oeste con Stoppenberg, al sur con Frillendorf y Kray, y al este con el barrio de Rotthausen de la ciudad vecina de Gelsenkirchen.
El nombre deriva de schöner Bach, schöne Becke. Schonnebeck fue mencionado por primera vez en el año 1242 y perteneció desde 1808 a la nueva municipalidad de Altenessen, la cual fue elevada a una alcaldía independiente en 1813. El 1 de enero de 1874 se escindió de esta la nueva alcaldía de Stoppenberg, a la que perteneció Schonnebeck. Esta pertenencia se mantuvo hasta la incorporación a la ciudad de Essen en 1929.
