El monasterio y el gimnasio María Reina se encuentra cerca de Altenhundem en la carretera 715, que va de Altenhundem a Bilstein. Situado en una colina iluminada poco antes de la bifurcación hacia Hohen Bracht, el brillante complejo de edificios con el crucifijo en la torre es visible desde lejos.
El monasterio con el gimnasio adjunto fue una institución de la provincia de Alemania de los Misioneros de la Sagrada Familia. Su historia comenzó en 1920 en el castillo de Adolfsburg en Oberhundem con la fundación de la primera escuela de misión. Esta fue trasladada más tarde a Altenhundem y en 1962 se cerró en el marco de un concepto escolar modificado.
