Esta fuente es un regalo de la ciudad hermana checa de Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) y fue diseñada por el artista checo Jan Kotek . Simboliza la vida eterna, día y noche, y el poder perdurable de la naturaleza.
La fuente se encuentra en Karlsbader Platz , una plaza inaugurada en julio de 2005 para celebrar el hermanamiento entre Bernkastel-Kues y Karlovy Vary. Este hermanamiento existe desde 1990 y se caracteriza por una intensa cooperación e intercambio entre ambas ciudades.
La fuente consta de varios elementos:
La cara de una niña representando el día.
La cara de un niño con los ojos cerrados simbolizando la noche.
Dos serpientes que encarnan el poder eterno, con uvas de vino en sus cuerpos, entre otras cosas, haciendo referencia a la tradición vinícola de la región.
Una cascada que fluye en tres niveles , representando el ciclo eterno de la vida y la naturaleza.
