El arsenal fue construido en 1518 y consta de tres edificios. Llamado originalmente Zeughaus, no fue hasta 1785 cuando se rebautizó con el nombre de Saint-Hilaire cuando el comandante de artillería de la ciudad, Marc Gaspard Capriol de Saint-Hilaire, llevó a cabo modificaciones. El arsenal albergaba varios miles de herramientas de los pioneros, plomo, alquitrán y municiones. La impresionante estructura del tejado, con tres niveles de buhardillas cubiertas con suelos de baldosas, atestigua la función de almacenamiento del edificio.
