Gebouwd in 1518, bestaat het arsenaal uit drie gebouwen. Aanvankelijk Zeughaus genoemd, werd het pas in 1785 omgedoopt tot Saint-Hilaire toen de commandant van de artillerie van de stad, Marc Gaspard Capriol de Saint-Hilaire, wijzigingen aanbracht. Het arsenaal bevatte enkele duizenden pionierswerktuigen, lood, teer en munitie. De indrukwekkende dakstructuur met drie niveaus van zolders bedekt met tegelvloeren getuigt van de opslagfunctie van het gebouw.
