Descubierta en 1905 por el científico y bioespeleólogo Armand VIRÉ. La cueva está abierta a los visitantes desde 1906.
Desde 1961, el acceso se realiza en tren eléctrico. Éste asciende 400 metros bajo tierra para llevarle al corazón de la colina.
La visita se realiza a pie con un guía. Desde el principio, en la Sala del Caos, descubrirá el maravilloso mundo del centro de la Tierra. Más de 150 millones de años de historia, cristales, mundos de cuento y animales legendarios se sucederán a lo largo de una hora y cuarto. Su visita termina en la Sala de las Maravillas, 2.000 metros cuadrados de luz negra donde concreciones fosforescentes llenan el silencio.
