En 1820, el segundo hijo de Carlos X, el duque de Berry, es asesinado por L.P. Louvel, un bonapartista que quiere poner fin a la dinastía de los Borbón. El duque de Berry muere sin hijos, pero un hijo póstumo, el duque de Burdeos, nace el 29 de septiembre del mismo año, día de San Miguel. Un año después se inaugura esta estatua encargada por el vizconde Elie de Pons Saint-Maurice, señor de Grignols, en honor a este niño. Enrique V de Borbón, duque de Burdeos y conde de Chambord, es el pretendiente legítimo al trono de Francia.
