In 1820 werd de tweede zoon van Charles X, de hertog van Berry, vermoord door L.P. Louvel, een bonapartist die een einde wil maken aan het Bourbon-geslacht. De hertog van Berry sterft zonder kinderen, maar een postume zoon, de hertog van Bordeaux, wordt geboren op 29 september van datzelfde jaar, de dag van Sint-Michiel. Een jaar later wordt dit standbeeld ingehuldigd, besteld door de burggraaf Elie de Pons Saint-Maurice, kasteelheer van Grignols, ter ere van dit kind. Hendrik V van Bourbon, hertog van Bordeaux en graaf van Chambord, is de legitieme pretendent voor de Franse troon.
