El Ayuntamiento fue construido entre 1646 y 1672 por los arquitectos lioneses Simon Maupin y Girard Desargues. En 1674 fue destruido por un incendio y reconstruido entre 1700 y 1703 por Jules Hardouin Mansart. Sus decorados y esculturas son sencillamente excepcionales.
