Creado en 1920, el cementerio de Pierrepont se convirtió en necrópolis nacional en 1923, cuando se agruparon los cuerpos exhumados de algunos cementerios militares de Meurthe et Moselle y del Mosa.
La imponente linterna de los muertos, erigida en memoria de los héroes caídos en la batalla de Pierrepont los días 22 y 23 de agosto de 1914, fue inaugurada el 18/09/1932.
La necrópolis contiene los restos de 3.758 soldados:
Guerra 14-18: 3045 franceses, 141 belgas, 2 británicos, 1 rumano, 493 rusos.
Guerra 39/45: 20 soldados franceses, 55 soldados soviéticos, 1 soldado checo.
La zona conmemorativa de Pierrepont es Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO;
