Ya en 1220 se realizaron consagraciones en la Iglesia de Santa María. Era el templo de la abadía de monjas cistercienses en Roermond, fundada por el conde Gerard V. A su muerte en 1229, fue inhumado en la celebración. No queda mucho del edificio original, ya que fue completamente remodelado por el arquitecto Cuypers en el siglo XIX. Dentro, también puedes ver el retablo del altar de 1530 y un relicario de talla de madera con alas pintadas.
