Bereits 1220 fanden in der O.L.-Vrouwe Munsterkerk Weihehandlungen statt. Es war das Gotteshaus des Zisterzienserinnenklosters in Roermond, das von Graf Gerard V. gegründet wurde. Bei seinem Tod 1229 wurde er in der Apsis beigesetzt. Von dem ursprünglichen Gebäude ist nicht viel mehr übrig, da es im 19. Jahrhundert gründlich von dem Architekten Cuypers umgestaltet wurde. Innen kann man auch noch das Altarretabel aus 1530 und einen Schrein mit Holzschnitzereien und bemalten Flügeln besichtigen.
