Already in 1220, ordinations took place in the O.L. Virgin Munster Church. It was the house of God of the Cistercian women's abbey in Roermond, which was founded by Count Gerard V. Upon his death in 1229, he was interred in the chancel. Not much of the original building remains because it was thoroughly redone by architect Cuypers in the 19th century. Inside, you can also view the altarpiece from 1530 and a wooden shrine with painted wings.
