Ossenwaardpad es un sendero recién construido a lo largo del Kromme Rijn.
En el año 47, los romanos proclamaron el Rin como la frontera norte de su Imperio Romano, el llamado 'Limes'. Los excursionistas en este camino siguen los pasos de los romanos, que en aquel entonces vigilaban aquí a lo largo del Kromme Rijn.
El Kromme Rijn fue una vez un río salvaje, al menos tan ancho como el Lek es hoy. Era una ruta de navegación importante para el transporte y el comercio entre Utrecht y Dorestad (Wijk bij Duurstede). Con barcazas especiales, los Krommerijnders, los pasajeros eran 'perseguidos' desde Wijk bij Duurstede hacia Utrecht por el sendero de remolque por 8 pennies y 12 centavos.
