El edificio del Ayuntamiento data de 1439 , con una campaña de construcción en 1751 y otras reformas y reconstrucciones hasta su aspecto actual.
Teniendo en cuenta la cronología histórica de Ponte de Lima, esta antigua ciudad también se identifica por el edificio de los Paços do Concelho , que también es muy antiguo. En la Praça da República, el edificio de dos plantas de planta rectangular tiene su fachada principal orientada al oeste. Todas las aberturas existentes son rectangulares. La fachada principal tiene cuatro ventanas en la planta baja, mientras que la planta superior tiene seis ventanas. En el centro, el portal que da acceso al interior está coronado por un frontón curvo. El acceso al portal se realiza a través de una gran escalera doble.
