Le bâtiment de l'hôtel de ville date de 1439 , avec une campagne de construction en 1751 et d'autres rénovations et reconstructions jusqu'à son aspect actuel.
Si l'on considère la chronologie historique de Ponte de Lima, cette vieille ville est également identifiée par le bâtiment des Paços do Concelho , lui aussi très ancien. Sur la Praça da República, le bâtiment rectangulaire de deux étages a sa façade principale orientée vers l'ouest. Toutes les ouvertures existantes sont rectangulaires. La façade principale comporte quatre fenêtres au rez-de-chaussée, tandis que l'étage supérieur en compte six. Au centre, le portail qui mène à l'intérieur est couronné par un fronton incurvé. L'accès au portail se fait par un grand escalier double.
