L' edificio del municipio risale al 1439 ; una campagna edilizia ha avuto luogo nel 1751 e sono stati effettuati altri lavori di ristrutturazione e ricostruzioni fino a raggiungere l'aspetto attuale.
Considerando la cronologia storica di Ponte de Lima, questa città vecchia è identificata anche dall'edificio Paços do Concelho , anch'esso molto antico. In Praça da República, l'edificio rettangolare a due piani ha la facciata principale rivolta a ovest. Tutte le aperture esistenti sono rettangolari. La facciata principale ha quattro finestre al piano terra, mentre il piano superiore ne ha sei. Al centro, il portale che conduce all'interno è coronato da un frontone curvo. L'accesso al portale avviene tramite una grande scalinata doppia.
