Het stadhuisgebouw dateert uit 1439, met een bouwcampagne in 1751 en andere renovaties en reconstructies tot het huidige uiterlijk.
Gezien de historische chronologie van Ponte de Lima wordt deze oude stad ook geïdentificeerd door het gebouw Paços do Concelho, dat ook erg oud is. In Praça da República heeft het rechthoekige gebouw van twee verdiepingen zijn hoofdgevel op het westen. Alle bestaande openingen zijn rechthoekig. De hoofdgevel heeft vier ramen op de benedenverdieping, terwijl de bovenverdieping zes ramen heeft. In het midden wordt het portaal dat naar het interieur leidt bekroond door een gebogen fronton. Toegang tot het portaal is via een grote dubbele trap.
