Después de la época de cultivo en las partes altas, se inició la construcción de un canal para llevar el agua del Barranco del Infierno a las partes bajas.
Desde aquí el agua fluía hasta la zona de la actual entrada al Barranco del Infierno , al norte de la ciudad, cerca del Antiguo Molino.
Una vez desviado el caudal del río Adeje, se utilizó para abastecer a la propia población , para regar los cañaverales, como motor del ingenio azucarero y de los molinos de agua utilizados para fabricar el gofio.
En Adeje había cuatro molinos hidráulicos : dos en la calle de los Molinos, uno en La Concepción y uno en Hoya Grande.
