La Gare du Nord de Bruxelles, avec la gare de Malines, fut l'une des premières gares en Belgique. Le premier train circulait donc entre Bruxelles et Malines. La première gare de départ ne se trouvait pas exactement ici mais à Bruxelles-Groendreef. C'est donc de Groendreef qu'est parti en 1835 le premier train sur une ligne ferroviaire publique sur le continent européen.
