Het Noordstation van Brussel was samen met het station in Mechelen de eerste treinstations in België. De eerste trein reed dan ook tussen Brussel en Mechelen. Het eerste station waar de trein van vertrok stond wel niet exact hier maar op Brussel-Groendreef. Vanuit Groendreef vertrok dus in 1835 de eerste trein op een publieke spoorweg op het Europese vasteland.
