On ne peut pas imaginer plus fou que De Inslag : des landes, des champs et des prairies à un prestigieux domaine château et un décor de chasse jusqu'à un véritable champ de bataille pendant les guerres mondiales.
Les deux guerres mondiales ont donné des coups durs à De Inslag et laissent encore aujourd'hui leurs empreintes dans ce domaine. Pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, on a coupé les arbres pour augmenter la visibilité autour de la ceinture fortifiée d'Anvers. 36 ans plus tard, la hache a de nouveau frappé la forêt pour faire place aux tranchées. Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, on a commencé la reforestation. Des pins sylvestres et des mélèzes ont rapidement couvert de grandes parties de De Inslag. En 1980, le gouvernement flamand a acheté De Inslag.
