Juste en bordure du parc Boekenberg se trouve la cité-jardin Unitas conçue par l’architecte Eduard Van Steenbergen. Cet ensemble de 202 maisons de style cottage anglais a vu le jour en 1924. Van Steenbergen y mit à profit le goût de l’époque pour les ‘cités-jardins’, des ensembles résidentiels urbains auxquels on donnait l’aspect d’un village.
Les maisons Unitas semblent toutes identiques, mais Van Steenbergen avait veillé à les personnaliser par des différences subtiles comme les huisseries et les couleurs. Les modernisations que leur ont apportées leurs propriétaires successfis ont sensiblement porté atteinte à leur unité, mais un plan de gestion datant de 2018 a pour ambition de rendre au quartier résidentiel son aspect d’origine.
