Le Postelvaartje a en fait été creusé pour irriguer les champs. L' « obélisque » qui se trouve ici est une ancienne pierre frontière. À l'époque, elle marquait le point où se rejoignaient pas moins de 7 seigneuries : Bergeijk, Luykgestel, Mol, Balen, Lommel, Dessel et Postel.
On pense qu'elle a été installée au début du 17ème siècle. À partir de 1843, elle a perdu sa fonction, lorsque la nouvelle Belgique a ajouté 122 hectares. La pierre a disparu sous terre mais a été à nouveau déterrée pour réaménager le site en 1981.
