Situé en Calestienne au pied du rocher de Turmont, entre Han-sur-Lesse et Ave-et-Auffe, cet étang présentait jadis un caractère plus sauvage mais a été aménagé au cours de ces dernières années par le propriétaire comme zone de pêche, avec empoissonnement, artificialisation des berges et construction de petites infrastructures. Si les berges accueillent encore une végétation spontanée rassemblant des espèces de la mégaphorbiaie, comme la reine des prés (Filipendula ulmaria) et l'eupatoire chanvrine (Eupatorium cannabinum), la végétation aquatique y est en revanche quasi absente. Malgré cela, le site présente encore un certain intérêt pour l'entomofaune, les odonates en particulier. Les abords assez fleuris sont particulièrement attractifs envers certains papillons rares provenant des pelouses calcicoles toutes proches.
