Une première gare provisoire en bois à Stene est ouverte en 1838 comme terminus de la ligne Bruxelles-Malines-Ostende.
En 1866, cependant, cela a été agrandi pour avoir une meilleure connexion avec le port pour les passagers et les marchandises.
