La Tiensestraat est une rue du centre de Louvain qui relie la place centrale Rector De Somerplein au ring de Louvain. La rue se transforme à la Tiensepoort en la Tiensesteenweg. Depuis le 1er juin 2013, la partie de la rue la plus vers le centre est entièrement piétonne jusqu'au croisement avec la Bériotstraat, ce qui a entraîné une forte augmentation des établissements de restauration. De cette façon, la rue devient un concurrent pour la Muntstraat, qui est connue comme LE restaurant-état de Louvain.
La Première Guerre mondiale a détruit certains des bâtiments le long de la rue, en particulier dans la partie la plus ancienne du centre, après quoi la reconstruction a suivi l'architecture de reconstruction.
