La place Woodrow Wilson ou 'le Sud' forme la limite de ‘Le quartier du Cirque’ à Gand. Ce quartier s'étend jusqu'à la place Saint-Pierre et a prospéré de 1880 à 1960. Auparavant, il y avait sur cette place une grande gare, la gare du Sud. Avec le Minardschouwburg, la salle de fête Vooruit, le zoo du Muinkpark et le Nouveau Cirque, c'était LE quartier à Gand où il fallait être pour se divertir au 19ème siècle.
