Le fort d’Ellenserdamm est situé directement au sud d’Ellenserdammersiel. Il a été construit comme une lunette fermée. Le système a été conçu pour deux pelotons d’infanterie. L’installation avait une longueur de 200 mètres et une largeur de 100 mètres. Les douves sont encore largement préservées.
Le fort Ellenserdamm a été construit avant la Première Guerre mondiale. Au nord de l’installation se trouvaient la batterie antiaérienne Ellenserdam et la batterie Ellenserdamm pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il a été réactivé pour la défense aérienne de Wilhelmshaven. Le complexe a été habité jusque dans les années 1970.
