La reconstruction de Chauny après la Première Guerre Mondiale mérite un intérêt particulier. Chauny est en effet la première ville de France à disposer d'un plan d'aménagement, d'embellissement et d'extension. Des éléments décoratif de style "art déco" sur les façades ou à l'intérieur des bâtiments en font une ville avec un patrimoine exceptionnel à redécouvrir. Aujourd'hui, lors d'une visite de la ville, il est intéressant de savoir que l'implantation de chaque édifice a fait l'objet d'une très large concertation. À ne pas rater: l'église Saint-Martin, la place du marché couvert, l'église Notre-Dame, le boulevard Gambetta, le square Foch, la salle des fêtes.
