Le Pays de Bitche compte une dizaine d'étangs tourbière pour la plupart protégés en raison de la flore exceptionnelle qu'ils abritent. A l'étang de Hanau, un sentier entièrement rénové durant l'été 2018, est aménagé sur caillebotis et jalonné de panneaux explicatifs permettant de comprendre la rareté et la fragilité de ce milieu naturel. De mai à septembre, on y observe des plantes carnivores, toutes sortes d'airelles ou libellules gracieuses. Le sentier se poursuit en forêt avec la découverte des principaux arbres locaux.
