En 1734, il ne restait quasiment rien du « chastel » médiéval qui avait été déjà partiellement démoli en 1671 sur ordre de Louis XIV. Jean-Antoine d’Eltz fit construire un château qui passa ensuite à son frère Philippe-Antoine, puis à son neveu Philippe-Charles d’Hunolstein qui le laissa en partie inoccupé. Ce qui restait du château après l’incendie qui le ravagea en 1792 fut démoli en 1810.
Une grosse tour, vestige du château médiéval, est encore visible aujourd’hui. Le seul vestige du château du XVIIIe est le bâtiment de servitude dont les fenêtres sont décorées de motifs ornementaux.
