Im Jahr 1734 war von der mittelalterlichen "Burg" kaum noch etwas übrig, die bereits 1671 auf Befehl Ludwigs XIV. teilweise abgerissen worden war. Johann Anton von Eltz ließ eine Burg errichten, die später an seinen Bruder Philipp Anton und dann an seinen Neffen Philipp Karl von Hunolstein überging, der sie zum Teil unbewohnt ließ. Was von der Burg nach dem Brand im Jahr 1792 übrig blieb, wurde 1810 abgerissen.
Ein großer Turm, ein Überbleibsel der mittelalterlichen Burg, ist heute noch zu sehen. Das einzige Überbleibsel der Burg aus dem 18. Jahrhundert ist das Dienstbotengebäude, dessen Fenster mit ornamentalen Mustern verziert sind.
