Créé en 1920, le cimetière de Pierrepont devient nécropole nationale en1923 lors du regroupement des corps exhumés de certains cimetières militaires de Meurthe et Moselle et de Meuse.
L'imposante lanterne des morts, érigée à la mémoire des Héros tombés à la bataille de Pierrepont les 22 et 23 août 1914, est inaugurée le 18/09/1932.
Dans la nécropole reposent 3758 soldats :
Guerre 14-18 : 3045 français, 141 belges, 2 britanniques, 1 roumain, 493 russes.
Guerre 39/45 : 20 soldats français, 55 soviétiques, 1 tchèque.
Le secteur mémoriel de Pierrepont est un site du patrimoine mondial UNESCO;
