Il fiume Schelda scorre per 17 chilometri su suolo fiammingo. È un fiume molto trafficato perché collega la Francia con i porti fiamminghi e rende anche i Paesi Bassi facilmente accessibili. Lo Schelda è un asse di traffico da non sottovalutare. È navigabile giorno e notte. I meandri tagliati (coupures) caratterizzano la valle dello Schelda.
