È un edificio neoromanico del 1923, costruito per sostituire una chiesa simile del 1877. Non solo durante la Prima ma anche durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, la chiesa subì gravi danni. Le riparazioni del 1947 determinano quindi l'aspetto attuale. Le facciate in mattoni gialli poggiano su un basamento in ardesia. La distinzione tra la chiesa romanica di San Bernardo e le chiese gotiche di Nieuwpoort-Stad e San Giorgio è chiara a colpo d'occhio.
