It is a neo-Romanesque building from 1923, constructed to replace a similar church building from 1877. The church was heavily damaged not only during the First but also during the Second World War. The repairs from 1947 define its current appearance. The façades in yellow brick rest on a granite base. The distinction of the Romanesque St. Bernardus Church from the Gothic churches of Nieuwpoort-Stad and St. Joris is clear at a glance.
