C'est un édifice néo-romane construit en 1923, remplaçant un bâtiment ecclésial similaire de 1877. Non seulement pendant la Première mais aussi pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l'église a été gravement endommagée. Les réparations de 1947 déterminent donc l'apparence actuelle. Les façades en briques jaunes reposent sur un socle en ardoise. La distinction entre l'église romane de Saint-Bernard et les églises gothiques de Nieuwpoort-Stad et de Saint-Georges est évidente au premier coup d'œil.
