Un importante nodo nella Prima Guerra Mondiale fu la stazione di Adinkerke, che fungeva da centro di accoglienza per i feriti. I soldati venivano portati alla stazione con cavalli e carretti o con il tram, per viaggiare da lì verso l'interno del paese in treno. Tuttavia, il trasporto militare di munizioni, rifornimenti e truppe aveva la precedenza sulla linea a binario unico. Nel marzo del 1915 ci fu un'enorme afflusso di feriti.
