Il sito si trova nell'Hainaut occidentale, a sud della città di Tournai, nel luogo chiamato «Faubourg de Valenciennes». Si tratta di un vecchio forno per calce costruito in pietra calcarea e la cui presenza è legata alle numerose cave un tempo sfruttate nella regione. Composta da 13 archi, di cui due sono chiusi a chiave, questa costruzione si dimostra particolarmente favorevole all'ibernazione dei pipistrelli. Così, nel corso degli ultimi anni dal 2012 al 2016, sono state registrate non meno di cinque specie: murino di Daubenton (Myotis daubentonii), murino baffuto o di Brandt (Myotis mystacinus/brandtii), murino di Natterer (Myotis nattereri), murino dalle orecchie scavate (Myotis emarginatus) e pipistrello comune (Pipistrellus pipistrellus).
