Le site se trouve dans le Hainaut occidental, au sud de la ville de Tournai, au lieu-dit «Faubourg de Valenciennes». Il s'agit d'un ancien four à chaux construit en moellons calcaires et dont la présence est liée aux nombreuses carrières jadis exploitées dans la région. Composée de 13 arches, dont deux sont fermées à clé, cette construction s'avère particulièrement favorable à l'hibernation des chauves-souris. Ainsi, au cours des dernières années 2012 à 2016, on y a recensé pas moins de cinq espèces: murin de Daubenton (Myotis daubentonii), murin à moustaches ou de Brandt (Myotis mystacinus/brandtii), murin de Natterer (Myotis nattereri), murin à oreilles échancrées (Myotis emarginatus) et pipistrelle commune (Pipistrellus pipistrellus).
