Il cormorano è chiaramente presente nel canale. Questo grande uccello (77-94 cm) con il suo piumaggio prevalentemente nero e il becco potente scompare regolarmente sott'acqua, in cerca di pesci da mangiare. Ogni giorno il cormorano mangia il suo peso in pesci. Per muoversi rapidamente, questo uccello acquatico ha meravigliose membrane natatorie. Quando esce dall'acqua per riposare a terra o su un ramo, dispiega le ali e la coda per far asciugare il piumaggio. A differenza di quello di altri uccelli, infatti, non è idrorepellente.
