Giuseppina di Beauharnais, la moglie di Napoleone, venne ad Aquisgrana nell'estate del 1804 per curarsi nelle famose terme. La sua visita suscitò all'epoca molto scalpore.
Visitò in particolare l'“Elisenbrunnen”—la fonte termale più famosa di Aquisgrana, dove all'epoca la nobiltà e gli ospiti di alto rango venivano a prendersi cura di sé. L'Elisenbrunnen era già nel XVIII e XIX secolo una località termale alla moda, nota per le sue sorgenti curative e il suo ruolo centrale nella vita sociale dell'elite europea. Qui venne anche Giuseppina, nella speranza di curare la sua infertilità, a fare regolarmente il bagno. Trascorreva le sue giornate sotto la supervisione del noto medico delle terme, il Dr. Reumont, e dedicava inoltre ore ai suoi vestiti e al suo guardaroba. Oltre alle terme, visitò anche fabbriche, istituzioni sociali e ovviamente il Duomo di Aquisgrana.
