Già nel VI secolo, il santo Goar si stabilì di fronte alla Loreley (Lorelei), nel luogo dove in seguito sorse la città di "St. Goar".
Nel centro della città si trova la chiesa dedicata a lui, con affreschi gotici.
Un'altra attrazione è la "chiesa parrocchiale cattolica" con una delle più preziose statue dell'altare del XV secolo.
Ma la maggiore attrazione turistica è la Fortezza Rheinfels, la più grande rovina di castello lungo il Reno, che svetta alta sopra la città.
St. Goar offre opportunità per numerose attività sportive, come ad esempio: "Volare con il deltaplano" - anche voli in tandem - sopra la valle della Loreley (Lorelei) e passeggiate lungo il sentiero dei castelli del Reno.
