La Mergelkuhle a Belm è oggi un monumento naturale al margine nord-orientale di Alt-Belm, Belm, nella contea di Osnabrück, situato nell'area del precedente castello di Astrup. Si trova lungo la Schlossstraße in un'area forestale di circa 2 ettari e occupa l'80-90% della sua superficie.
L'area appartiene all'Hügelland di Osnabrück. Gli strati rocciosi che emergono in questa cava sono geologicamente attribuibili al Terziario. Qui si trovano rocce di marna con resti di varie rocce calcaree e sabbiose, attribuibili all'Oligocene. La marna è una materia prima importante per la produzione di cemento e in passato è stata utilizzata anche per migliorare i terreni delle zone umide bonificate.
