Criewen è un comune che in passato era indipendente e che dal 1º agosto 2001 fa parte di Schwedt/Oder. Si trova vicino al confine polacco, adiacente al Parco Nazionale della Valle dell'Oder Inferiore. Criewen viene menzionata per la prima volta nel 1354 ed è quindi uno dei più antichi villaggi di pescatori slavi documentati.
Il castello costruito per il Caporale Otto von Arnim nel Parco Lenné ospita oggi l'Accademia di Brandeburgo Schloss Criewen. Dal 2003 anche la Fondazione tedesca per la tutela dei monumenti ha partecipato al restauro della chiesa.
