Criewen is een voormalige zelfstandige gemeente die sinds 1 augustus 2001 tot Schwedt/Oder behoort. Het ligt dicht bij de Poolse grens, direct grenzend aan het Nationaal Park Onder-Oderdal. Criewen werd voor het eerst in 1354 schriftelijk vermeld en is daarmee een van de oudste gedocumenteerde Slavic vissersdorpjes.
Het kasteel dat voor ritmeester Otto von Arnim is gebouwd in het Lenné-Park is tegenwoordig de zetel van de Brandenburgse Academie Kasteel Criewen. Bij de restauratie van de kerk was sinds 2003 ook de Duitse Stichting Monumentenzorg betrokken.
