Groß Ellershausen è un quartiere occidentale della città universitaria di Göttingen, in Bassa Sassonia, ed è stata un comune autonomo fino alla sua incorporazione nel 1973.
Groß Ellershausen si trova sul pendio della valle del Leine, a cinque chilometri a ovest della città di Göttingen ed è, dal 1° gennaio 1973, un quartiere di questa città. Il territorio è stato inserito nella zona di protezione paesaggistica del Leinebergland dal 1° settembre 1966. La superficie totale del territorio copre circa 390 ettari, inclusi 87 ettari di foresta.
Groß Ellershausen è prevalentemente un comune residenziale, in cui è ancora presente un'attività agricola a tempo pieno.
La popolazione è di 1347 abitanti rispetto ai 286 del 1939.
