La Roche-sur-Yon /la ʁɔʃ syʁ jõ/ è un comune francese di 55.737 abitanti capoluogo del dipartimento della Vandea nella regione dei Paesi della Loira.
Il toponimo La Roche-sur-Yon deriva dalla posizione della città costruita su una roccia, non lontano dal fiume Yon che l'attraversa. In latino è menzionata nei documenti come Rocha super Oionis fluvium, Rocha super Oium e Roca super Yon nell'XI secolo, apud Rocam Castrum nel 1128.
