Il municipio si trova in Place Stanislas dal XVIII secolo. La sua grande facciata, ornata dalle armi di Stanislas e dallo stemma della città di Nancy, chiude l'antica piazza reale.
Le porte si aprono su un peristilio che conduce allo scalone principale, ornato da una balaustra in ferro battuto in un unico pezzo, un vero capolavoro di Jean Lamour.
Lo scalone, le cui pareti sono ornate da affreschi di Girardet, conduce al Salon Carré, un salone all'italiana che precede il Grand Salon.
